DX’ing & Contesting

Since first being licensed in 1975, one of my interests in amateur radio has been DXing. Over the last 22 years I’ve been able to build a competitive station and antenna system.  CW is my favorite mode.

My country total is 345 and have worked over 262 countries on all the bands between 80 through 10 meters and 207 countries on 160 meters.                           

There are several contests that I participate in each year.

My current station consists of:

                 Icom IC-7610

                 Drake L7 Amplifier

Tower:

                 Rohn SSV 160 ft. (Sections 1-8)

                 Self supporting tower with 32 cu. yds. of concrete for base.

Antennas:

                 160 Meter 1/4 wave vertical with 36 radials (ea. 130 ft. long)

                 160 Meter Inv. Vee — Apex @ 160 ft.

                 80 Meter 1/4 wave vertical with 36 radials (ea. 130 ft. long)

                 80 Meter Inv. Vee — Apex @ 160 ft.

                 40 Meter 2 element yagi @ 125 ft.

                 30 Meter dipole @ 100 ft.

                 SteppIR 4 element 20-6 meter yagi @ 82 ft.

                 M2 6M7 7 element 6 meter yagi @ 160 ft.

                 VHF/UHF Omni antenna @ 130 ft.
